Bet Trackers

A question I get asked a lot about is how our products are different from the competition. It’s always a hard question for us, because our answer is the one you are never supposed to say - that we really have no competition. But it’s true! There's really nothing else out there that can give a granular account of your play like we can.

There are ‘bet trackers’ out there, and I want to explain how BettorTakes is different than them. Sports betting can be split into two skills. The first skill is analyzing the game; coming up with what you think will happen during the event, your opinion. This can be expressed simply by thinking Dallas + 5 is a good bet, or that the spread should be Dallas - 2, or that the final score will be 101 - 85, or it could be more of a narrative approach, like ‘I think the defense will shut down Le Bron’, etc. There’s lot’s of ways you can have an opinion on a game. This skill is called handicapping.

The second skill is money management, or how you plan on expressing your opinion through betting. Betting is an entirely different skill than handicapping; you can be a great handicapper and your predictions proven correct, but still be a poor bettor, and not do as well as someone that has worse opinions than you, but is a better money manager.

‘Bet Trackers’ are poor indicators of skill, because they combine these 2 separate skills into one function, making it difficult to determine where the problem is; if you are losing, it can’t tell you what the problem is, it only tells you that you are losing (which you already are aware of).

That is why BettorTakes is so strong, we separate those two skills so you can determine your strengths & weaknesses, and hopefully improve your play. Our EDGE Tool analyzes your past history to give you a clear measure of your handicapping skill for each bet; it answers the question, ‘how do I usually do when I make similar bets?’

Coming soon will be BettorTakes financial, which will isolate your money management skills, and find ways that you are handicapping well, but screwing it up betting (aside from your losing parlays!).

I’m often asked how our products differ from the competition. It's a tough question because our answer is unconventional: we really have no competition. It’s true! There's nothing else that provides as granular an account of your play as we do.

There are ‘bet trackers’ out there, but BettorTakes is different. Sports betting involves two distinct skills. The first is analyzing the game, or handicapping. This involves predicting what will happen during an event, whether it’s thinking Dallas +5 is a good bet, believing the spread should be Dallas -2, predicting a final score of 101-85, or constructing a narrative like ‘I think the defense will shut down LeBron.’

The second skill is money management, which is about how you express your opinions through betting. Betting is a separate skill from handicapping; you can be a great handicapper with accurate predictions but still perform poorly if you’re not a good bettor. Conversely, someone with weaker opinions but better money management might outperform you.

‘Bet trackers’ are poor indicators of skill because they merge these two distinct skills into one function. They can’t pinpoint why you’re losing; they only tell you that you’re losing, which you already know.

This is where BettorTakes excels. We separate these two skills so you can identify your strengths and weaknesses and improve your play. Our EDGE Tool analyzes your past history to give you a clear measure of your handicapping skill for each bet, answering the question, ‘How do I usually do when I make similar bets?’
